U.K born ‘King Solomon’ is a versatile artist who has travelled and toured extensively across Europe, Caribbean island of Trinidad, Gayuna and Brazil.
While based in the Asante kingdom of Ghana in Kumasi, Solomon was inspired and influenced by many musical sounds from the traditional Adowa, Highlife music, old skool highlife, Ghana Gospel, Hip Pop, Swing, Reggae, Dancehall and Michael Jackson which lead to him forming his first band.
During the early nineties the sound of Buju Banton and Shabba Ranks were dominating the airwaves of Ghana and ‘King Solomon’ developed a love for dancehall being influenced by acts like Bounty killa, Mad Cobra, Garnet Silk, Dennis Brown, Burning Spear, Culture, Mighty Diamonds, Horace Andy, Capelton and Sizzla kalonji.
After returning to the U.K and being influenced by acts like Nas, Busta rhymes, Wu Tang Clan and Biggie Smalls he started going to Chimes in Clapton pond for the ‘Asherworld Movement’ where Bobo el Numero uno, Victor V and Mr Mention were the household selectors at that time.
In his own words Solomon says “I even remember when Selector firelinks came to Chimes in 2000 to shatter the dance. In the late 90’s I started buying vinyl from Blacker Dread store and the Alton-Ellis shop in Brixton village, to practice toasting on the riddims”.
King Solomon then hooked up with Portuguese producer ‘Dj Redirob’ and they began work at ‘Blackhawk Sounds Studio’ in Brixton and perfected his vocals blending old skool hip pop with Roots rockers.
Solomon says “I loved his sound and he produced a tune called ‘no Gangwar’ that reached no 6 on the Dutch Online Reggae charts with sizzla and Gregory Issacs in the top 5”.
King Solomon began cutting dubplate specials for Sound systems in Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Trinidad, English Gayuna, Brazil and many more.
King Solomon has performed live opening up for Queen Omega in Trinidad, Turbulance at the Fish Fry Festival in North London, Linval Thompson at the Hootananny In Brixton, Kwakoe Festival with Empress Messenger Sound (Donna Lee) Holland, DJ Warlord Ostende Belgium, U.K Talent Rain finalist in Bromley Town Hall and countless street shows.
The brand new single from ‘King Solomon Musiq’ is called ‘Happiness’ and is out now.
