We are obsessed with recording artist Tiana Kocher. The Manila-born contemporary RnB singer-songwriter has just released her latest single ‘Take Over feat. Sage the Gemini’. We chatted to her about life in the fast lane to success.
Your latest single Take Over has rapper Sage the Gemini featured. Can you explain the process you guys went through for this record?
Sage actually recorded his verse before me so when I heard it in the studio for the first time, I was ecstatic! Writing the song with Candace was a lot of fun because we wanted to show both sides of a relationship. The lyrics are about love, but through the eyes of both the male and female’s perspective of a couple finding each other and “taking over” the world together.
The music video is stunning. Can you tell us about the shoot?
Thank you! I had the best time filming the music video. As many people know my dancers are also some of my closest friends, I don’t even consider them my dancers. I’m sure you can imagine how fun it is to work with friends, it doesn’t feel like work! I was so fortunate to be able to film the music video in Malibu and on a really gorgeous yacht. Definitely no green screen here! It was actually my first time on a yacht so I was really giddy the entire time, although some people did get sea sick we were all able to pull through and create a really dope and energetic visual to accompany the song. We had a total of 14 dancers and one of the shots was one the helipad and it was such a “pinch me” moment for a lot of us to be doing what we love on such a dope set while looking out into the ocean, the dolphins even paid us a visit!
You have performed all over. What is your favourite song to perform to?
I’d have to say Don’t Trip is one of my favourite songs to perform to because it’s the one song in my set where it’s just female dancers, so I love being sassy with my girls! I also cover Jojo’s version of Marvin’s room and I always look forward to singing that because the lyrics really resonate with me.
What is one rule you live by?
I’d say one rule I live by is to always is to always have an element of being a child. As a child you thought you could achieve anything, you were invincible. I like bringing that mindset into the work place because if you believe you can do something, you absolutely can turn that dream into reality.
THE FULL POP STORY
Tiana Kocher teamed up with multi-platinum recording artist and rapper Sage the Gemini for her latest single release, ‘Take Over’, which she wrote with GRAMMY award-winning writer Candace Wakefield, and Sage the Gemini.
Releasing through Manila Music, the ‘Take Over’ music video was directed by Ali Zamani and produced by Zeus Zamani of AZ Films. Set on a Southern California sun drenched backdrop, ‘Take Over’ is a song about love, but through the eyes of both the male and female’s perspective of a couple finding each other and “taking over” the world together.
“Take Over’ was one of the first songs I ever recorded in Los Angeles,” says Kocher. “I recorded and filmed the music video over two years ago during summer 2018, and it was my first song working with a feature. I had an incredible time working with Sage, who ended up being one of my closest confidants in the industry. I consider him my big brother. I was fortunate enough to be able to work really closely with AZ Films to create a visual that matches the energy of the song. We always want to outdo ourselves, so we came up with the idea of filming the music video on a yacht! I had such a great time working with my closest friends on this music video.”
Sage the Gemini has been featured on several award-winning songs including records with Chris Brown and Flo Rida, and has produced a multitude of songs, most recently for Tinashe and Tyga.
Tiana Kocher has collaborated with several GRAMMY award-winning recording artists including TLC, Faith Evans and Latin reggaeton J. Alvarez amongst others, as well as multiple award-winning record producers including Laney Stewart, Leon “RoccStar” Youngblood, Warren Kurtiss and Tyler Reynolds.
‘Take Over’ is available for download on iTunes and all digital streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, SoundCloud, Pandora, DEEZER, iHeartRadio, Google Play, and Xbox Groove.
